Tove Sahlin from Shake it Collaborations commissioned by The Royal Dramatic Theater

Tove Sahlin from Shake it Collaborations creates her first work for the Royal Dramatic Theater, opening 9 Dec on the main stage. LIV DÖD SEX POP will be a danced documentary performance about life and death, potential and obstacles, based on the participants’ own stories. A tube train has crashed into the Main Stage at Dramaten, a head-on collision between life’s expectations and reality. “Enter stage!” someone shouts. But who can even get to the theatre, the tube or across the plaza? Eleven performers share scenes and dances from their lives and deaths in a physical and visual fireworks display, about what we all have in common: we are born, and we’re all going to die. One imagines dying alone in the grass in her grandfather’s meadow. Another in a hospital bed with the kids and their mothers all gathered round. One is often angry, but sad inside. Another doesn’t want to talk at all, just dance. Liv död sex pop is like a droll, dance-friendly and deadly serious pop song. A dreamy, documentary dystopia. The production is created by choreographer Tove Sahlin, playwright Malin Holgersson, set designer Josefin Hinders and composer Malin Dahlström (known from Niki & The Dove). They have previously collaborated on DNA – Dansa Nära Anhörig which played to full houses at Backa Teater in Gothenburg in 2018 and was selected for the Scenkonstbiennalen in 2019. Now, they pursue their exploration and celebration of life’s complications, vulnerabilities and care.
